Hyderabad: In India, a majority of the youngsters look for employment opportunities instead of creating them, said former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. “Don’t think about just getting placement but try to create jobs. You can do the multiplier effect by taking up entrepreneurship. This is what people expect from business schools,” he suggested the students of Indian School of Business (ISB).
He was at Hyderabad Campus on Sunday evening to attend a discussion on his co-authored book, ‘Breaking the Mould: Reimagining India's Economic Future’. Bhagwan Chowdhry, Professor of Finance at ISB, moderated the interactive session. During the event, he said: “This is one of the top business schools in India and it should create many entrepreneurs to add more and more jobs in the country.”
Speaking about the future of Indian economy, Rajan said: “It must be a joke if someone says India would become a developed rich nation by 2047. Today, about 35 per cent of the infants in the country suffer from malnutrition. These kids would turn out to be 35 per cent of the labour by 2047. How do you expect to be a developed country with 35 per cent mentally and physically incapable work force?”
He further said, “If the ambition is really to get developed, the governments must start working on the severe problems of the country like malnutrition, and lack of healthcare and educational facilities.”
Rohit Lamba, the co-author of the book, suggested the youth to constantly engage with new ideas rather than questioning the intention. “If you disagree an idea, debate on it but don’t point out fingers at each other. As long as possible, don’t question the intent behind an idea,” he advised the ISB students.
